MLS offers a series of professional development opportunities for self-defense leaders through our Self-defense Instructor Training (SDIT) in Michiana. The SDIT can also be offered in other locations by sponsoring organizations. Our most recent off-site trainings were in Texas and Washington State.

MLS Instructor Training follows the curriculum of MLS and is generally attended equally by teachers with an interest in MLS certification, and outside teachers building skills and knowledge for teaching personal safety.  Some teachers are independent, and some work with other self-defense organizations.

The SDIT is organized into 4 segments of instructor focus: background information and introductory personal safety programming; verbal defense; facilitation and leadership; and physical self-defense training.

The complete SDIT is a 20-hour training, usually offered Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. When the SDIT is offered locally, each of the 4 segments is designed for one-day participation, or for a series of classes over a weekend, or over a longer period. By changing our schedule format periodically, MLS is able to reach a diverse group of teachers with varying schedule availability.
