Boundary
Edge, or limit. Personal boundaries include the Personal Space Boundary (which extends out from all body surfaces approximately the distance of one arm’s reach) and the Intimate Space Boundary (which extends out from all body surfaces approximately the same distance as a hand-span). A person with clear psycho-physical boundaries is less likely to be influenced by coercive or manipulative behavior. The two body boundaries are fluid; they are partially-determined by variable factors such as culture. For SD training, it is important to note that they are unconsciously-recognizable; the body reacts to penetration of a boundary at a physiological level.
Biomechanical Principles
Theory underlying the effective use of structural components of physical movement. Example: vertical alignment refers to the correct spatial relationship between the hips, shoulders, and head. Using the principle of Vertical Alignment to self-correct self defense technique leads to more effective (powerful) movement.
Biomechanical
Referring to inherent and efficient movement patterns within the biology of a being; mechanical relationships between the physical structure (bones, nerves, muscles, etc.) and the breath and spirit.
