Indulgence
The activity of allowing unproductive mental, emotional, nutritional, or relational (etc.) habits and fixation to continue. An aspect of empowerment theory holds that all persons have the power of Choice to use experience in a productive manner; to be aware of the power of Choice and not make use of it is indulgence, often simply due to the power of familiarity.
Intensity
The level of energy in expression. Intensity is used to distinguish levels of escalation so that we can choose effective responses to inappropriate behavior.
- Intensity is often associated with abuse, e.g., the false conclusion that all yelling is abusive.
- People also use intensity as a false measure of reality.
Examples: I love him so much it must be true love, or, the intensity of his jealousy means that he is truly in love with me.

Internalized Abuse
Actions rooted in anger or hatred in which we cause harm to our self.
Isolation
A condition necessary in order for abuse to occur.
- Alone.
- Emotional-isolation, e.g., a child who reports abuse to a parent and is ignored or condemned.
- Economic isolation, e.g., a woman who has no source of income or support, other than from an abuser.
- Political-isolation, e.g., institutional rape where the institution is not Accountable and the prisoner has no Power of reporting or escaping, etc.
Intrusion
An inappropriate or unwanted behavior that affects us directly. This term refers to Aggressive behavior that signals a lack of respect and indicates that the aggressor is a potential assailant. See also: Space Intrusion; Touch Intrusion; Word Intrusion.
